Delay the review. Push for a charge on our home. Ask for property value and mortgage details. Ignore what we send. Then reject without what feels like a proper evaluation.
That was just the beginning.
When we asked questions, they raised a complaint on our behalf, framed it their way, and investigated their own version. When we asked more questions, their Head of Litigation dismissed our vulnerability as having "no bearing" and proposed a phone call instead of written answers. When we insisted on a written record, she went silent and handed us to external solicitors. When the solicitors finally wrote, their own letter couldn't agree on what we owe.
We did everything right. We came forward. We offered what we could. We asked reasonable questions in writing. We filed complaints with the Financial Ombudsman and the Information Commissioner. We exercised our legal rights. We met every deadline. We provided every document.
The response, every single time, was the same: don't answer the questions, escalate to someone more senior, and keep coming for the house.
Would we ever use Funding Circle again? No.
Would we recommend Funding Circle to any other business owner? No.
Have Funding Circle treated us fairly and with respect when the chips were down? No.
Do we believe Funding Circle's model is built to attract business owners who need fast cash, then move straight to aggressive debt collection when things go wrong? Yes.
Are we genuinely expecting Funding Circle to try and take our house from us? Yes.
The stress Funding Circle have put us through has been unbearable.
